    エルヴィス・プレスリーやリッキー・ネルソンのサイド・ギタリストとして名を馳せたジェイムズ・バートン。彼が最初に注目を浴びたのは、デイル・ホーキンスの「Suzie Q」の中の必殺ギター・リフであるが、このプレイは当時のシーンに大きなインパクトを与えた。その後も独自の"チキン・ピック"奏法を武器に、エルヴィスやリッキーのバック・バンドで活躍し、西海岸のスタジオ・マンとして引っぱりダコとなる。そして、そのプレイはロック畑のアーティストにも慕われ、グラム・パーソンズやドアーズ、トッド・ラングレン、エルヴィス・コステロなどのアルバムにも参加し、歌伴のバックとして最高の演奏を聴かせた。
