    This Mortal Coilディス・モータル・コイル

    ディス・モータル・コイルをひとつのバンドとして、とらえるのは間違いである。それはこのスタジオ・ワーク専門のユニットが曲や、アルバムごとにミュージシャンのラインナップをチェンジさせていくスタイルに顕著だ。そして、参加しているのはデッド・カン・ダンス、コクトー・ツインズ、カラーボックスなど、主に4ADレーベル所属のアーティストたちである。変動性の高いユニットゆえ音楽性は非常に多様なものとなり、震えるようなアンビエントから、氷のように冷たく未来的なドラム・マシーンを使った奇妙な作品まで、３枚のアルバムそれぞれが幅広く内包している。ディス・モータル・コイルの作品中、最もよく知られている曲のいくつかは、ティム・バックリィ、コリン・ニューマン、クリス・ベルといった陽のあたらないまま消えていったアーティストたちのカヴァー作品であった。
