    The Kinksザ・キンクス

    イギリス４大ロック・バンド（他はビートルズ、ローリング・ストーンズ、フー。念のため）のうち、残念ながらもっとも影の薄いキンクス。しかし、「パンク・ロックの偉大なるゴッド・ファーザー」として、「アイロニーにあふれたブリット・ロックの創始者」として、現在でも世界中ロック・ファンからリスペクトされている、という事実は紛れもない。
    64年リリースされた３rdシングル「ユー・リアリー・ガット・ミー」（ヴァン・ヘイレンのカヴァーでもお馴染み）は、ロック史に燦然と輝く大名曲だ。闇夜を切り裂くようなワイルド・ギター・リフとアブストラクトな歌メロが絡み合い、得体の知れない高揚感を聴くものにもたらす、この必殺のロックンロール・ナンバーは英米両国で大ヒットを記録した。以降、本当に数多くの名盤・名曲を輩出していく。初期キンキー・サウンドの集大成『フェイス・トゥ・フェイス』、日本のファンの間で特に人気の高いフォーク・ロック作『ヴィレッジ・グリーン・プリザヴェイション・ソサイエティ』、文句なしの超傑作コンセプト・アルバム『アーサー、もしくは大英帝国の衰退ならびに滅亡』や『ローラ対パワーマン、マネーゴーランド組第１回戦』。そして、71年発表の『マスウェル・ヒルビリーズ』に始まる、レイ・デイヴィスの作家性が爆発したRCA時代（＝セールス低迷期）至高の作品群。
    そして70年代後半には、パンク・ロック・ムーヴメントの後押しを受け第一線に復帰したキンクス。ロック色濃い『ロウ・バジェット』『ステイト・オブ・コンフュージョン』がヒット、アメリカ市場においても大きな成功を収めていく。94年には久しぶりの来日公演を果たし、日本中のキンキー・マニアを号泣させたのであった。
