    レッド・ツェッペリンのフロントマンとしてロック史を代表するヴォーカリストとして知られるロバート・プラントだがツェッペリンの1980年の解散後は地道にソロ・シンガーとしてのキャリアを築いてきた。
    1982年の『11時の肖像』を皮切りに、90年代まで寡作ではあるがリリースしたアルバム５枚はは全て全米アルバムチャートで５位以内を常に獲得し続け、「ツェッペリン後」のプラントの人気は衰えることを知らなかった。

    90年代以降のロバート・プラントといえば、≪MTVアンプラグド≫でのジミー・ペイジとの共演を機にアルバム1998年『ウォーキング・イントゥ・クラークスデール』をリリースするなど一時期はツェッペリンへ再び興味を示したかに思われたが、自身のストレンジ・センセイションとしての活動と並行しながら、ブルース、フォーク、アフリカ、中東など様々なルーツミュージックを租借したワールドミュージック的な嗜好に傾倒。
    元々ツェッペリンが持ち合わせていたエスニックな感覚とはまた違う魅力は、これまで彼を支持してきたロック好きのリスナー以外の新たな層にもアピールする本格的なものへと発展していく。

    2007年にはアメリカのブルーグラスシンガー、アリソン・クラウスとの共演アルバム『Raisng Sand』を発表。カントリー・ミュージックの枠を越え敬愛するソングライターや自身の作品などをデュエットという新たなフォーマットで表現した本作は51回グラミー賞で【最優秀アルバム賞】【最優秀レコード賞】の主要2部門を含む5部門獲得した。
